Prof. Orori Kengara is an Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences of Bomet University College. He holds a Doctor of Natural Science (Dr.rer.nat.) degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry and Environmental Health Protection Engineering from the Technical University of Munich in Germany, a Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Chemistry from Maseno University in Kenya, and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Chemistry and Mathematics/Computer science from Moi University in Kenya. He did his doctoral research at the National Research Center for Environmental Health, and was domiciled at the Institute of Soil Ecology, where he focused on fate processes of persistent xenobiotics in soil. He also worked in the Institutes of Ecological Chemistry and Ground Water Ecology, and is therefore well versed with both aerobic and anaerobic systems and processes. He did his post-doctoral research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Soil Science, in the Department of Environmental Soil Chemistry. His research interests lie in studying the fate processes and enhancing the degradation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in soil through bioremediation and steering ecological conditions; monitoring for inorganic and organic contaminants in the environment; soil processes, including greenhouse gas emissions; biomass transformation to biochar - and its different applications; and renewable energy- such as biodiesel production from non-edible sources. Prof. Kengara is well versed with many instruments and techniques including radioisotope tracing (14C) using Liquid Scintillation Counting, GC (ECD/ FID), GC-MS, HPLC, Ion Chromatography, UV-Vis & FT-IR spectroscopy, Fluorescence analysis, Stable Isotope analysis (13C and 15N) and Total Organic Carbon analysis. He has over 20 years experience in university in the university system having started off as a graduate assistant and moved up to Senior Lecturer at Maseno University. He was wide and extensive in the teaching, training and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Dr. Adolphus Wagala a senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS) of Bomet University College. He holds a PhD (Probability & Statistics) from The Mathematics Research Center, AC, Guanajuato, Gto. Mexico, also known by the acronym CIMAT in Spanish (Centro de Investigacion en Matematicas, AC). He also has a Bachelors degree in Double Mathematics and a Masters of Science in Statistics from Egerton University, Njoro, Kenya. He was a visiting Scientist at the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) and the University of Melbourne, Australia. His research interests are diverse ranging from working on molecular biology data from biotechnologies like microarray, next generation sequencing (RNA-seq data) and milliplex data to data in the social sciences. He uses statistical tools in bioinformatics with the aim of, among other things, determining differentially expressed genes, data exploration and visualization. He has worked on statistical integration of molecular data via networks in order to determine changes in the functional groups of some genes. He is also interested on applied statistical analysis with special interest in financial data especially the volatility modelling via non-linear models like GARCH models and its various extensions. Another key area of interest is the data mining and statistical learning where he is able to use various multivariate analysis methodologies, linear models, times series analysis and network analysis among many other statistical tools. Dr. Maritim Kiprono Simeon is a lecturer in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Bomet University College. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied mathematics from the University of Eldoret, a Master of Science degree in mathematics and a Bachelor’s degree in Education both from Kenyatta University. Dr. Kibe Horace Eyind is a Lecturer of Physics the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, of Bomet University College. Dr. Everlyne Kareji Amadi is a lecturer in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Department of Physical Sciences Bomet University College. Dr. Alex Machio Kange is a lecturer in the department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Bomet University College (A Constituent College of Moi University). He holds a doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Plant Pathology from Nanjing Agricultural University, China, Master of Science in Crop Protection, and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Egerton University, Kenya. His research interests are in Integrated Management of Plant Diseases, Functional Characterization of Transcription Factors, Agronomy, and Pre-and-Post harvest losses in the underutilized crops (Sorghum, Millet, and legumes - Cowpeas, Pigeon pea and Bambara nuts) and Agro-biodiversity. Dr. Kange has a wide and extensive experience in teaching, training, research and mentoring of students’ in their research projects at the institutions of higher learning. Dr. Muyoma, Paul Wanjala is a lecturer in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Department of Physical and Biological Sciences, Bomet University College. Dr. Muyoma, Paul Wanjala holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Microbiology, awarded under the Graduate Teaching Assistant Program of the African Centre of Excellence for Oilfield Chemicals Research, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria in collaboration with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM). Dr. David Kimutai Melly is a lecturer in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Department of Biological Sciences, Bomet University College. Dr. Thomas O. Onchuru is a lecturer in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Department of Biological Sciences, Bomet University College. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences (Biology) from the Johannes Gutenberg University-Mainz in Germany. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology, both from Kenyatta University. He has teaching and research experience in the fields of Microbiology, Microscopy, Zoology, Entomology, Molecular biology, and Biotechnology.
His research interests include the use of modern research techniques to study symbiotic interactions between insects and their associated microrganisms. Insect-associated microrganisms play an important role in shaping insect biology, diversity, ecology, and evolution. Therefore, studying insect-microbe associations can provide novel strategies for controlling medically, veterinary, and agriculturally important insects. In his Ph.D., Dr. Onchuru revealed that gut associated microbes prevent parasite infections in a cotton stainer insect system. Based on his Ph.D. findings, he is currently involved in a collaborative research with scientists at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) to investigate the potential of using a microbial symbiont of malaria transmitting mosquitoes to block malaria transmissions to humans. Dr. Onchuru has authored and published his research findings in several international peer-reviewed scientific journals. Additionally, he has presented his research in international conferences and workshops. Throughout his research career, he has trained and mentored students by supervising B.Sc. and M.Sc. research projects. Dr. Isaac Mwangi Wangari is a Mathematics lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS) at Bomet University College. He obtained his Phd in applied mathematics (in particular mathematical biology) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) (in Australia). He holds a Masters degree in applied mathematics from the University of Kwazulu Natal and a postgraduate diploma (PGD) in mathematical sciences from the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), both from South Africa. He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a BSC (mathematics) degree. Dr. Wangari's research interest is in mathematical biology (Biomathematics), in particular applying mathematical concepts to model how infectious disease spreads within a population, and how the spread can be mitigated through treatment and/or vaccination. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked on a project titled "Backward bifurcation and reinfection in mathematical models of tuberculosis," which involved investigating how new complex bifurcation structures emerge in dynamical systems. Fredrick Odero is a lecturer in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). He is a doctoral research scholar in Information Systems and Technology at the University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN) in South Africa. The title of his study is, “Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis Framework for Selecting and Prioritizing Information Systems Projects for the Kenyan Public Sector”. Mr. Odero holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Based Information Systems from the University of Sunderland (UK), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). He began his career in University teaching and research in 2004 as Tutor in Information Technology and Coordinator of JKUAT Programmes at Nairobi Institute of Technology (NIT). In 2008 he was appointed Tutorial Fellow in the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technology at JKUAT, and in 2011 the founding ICT Manager of the JKUAT ICT Consultancy Centre. He has had a teaching stint at Taita Taveta University College (a Constituent College of JKUAT), and served as the College’s founding ICT Manager. Mr. Odero has served the Ministry of Information and Communications and the National Economic Social Council (NESC) as a member of the ICT Cluster Task Force responsible for establishing ICT clusters in Kenya. He is a member of the Computer Society of Kenya (CSK), and the Pan African Competitiveness Forum (PACF).
